Check the entry route before comparing schools

A traditional bachelor’s and an accelerated second-degree program can be offered by the same university but have different admission rules. UMass Amherst’s traditional program describes direct entry from high school and does not accept transfers. UMass Lowell’s program directory also excludes transfers to its traditional nursing pathway. Verify these restrictions against your own starting point.

Look beyond the online label

Our RN-to-BSN listings illustrate different formats. Boston includes a clinical experience alongside online coursework, while Lowell describes asynchronous study without a clinical component. Ask about live class meetings, practice requirements, and state restrictions. UMass Amherst’s RN-to-BS handbook page currently says the option is on hold, so we have not included it as an available directory offering.

Compare costs and outcome records carefully

Match tuition to the program and term: the RN-to-BS completion rate is not the price of a traditional four-year nursing degree. For first-licensure programs, use the Massachusetts nursing board’s approval and outcome information. Check the campus, reporting year, and candidate group before comparing pass rates.
